Schools’ Football titles decided
Two new champions were crowned last Sunday, December 10, at the Victoria Park, as the schools’ Football competition for 2023 came to an end.
The Owia Government dethroned the Paget Farm Government, 3-2 to take the Primary Schools’ title. An extra time strike from Amalie Lavia broke the deadlock, as both teams were locked 2-2. Lavia had earlier netted for Owia, with Terique Pollard scoring the other.
Paget Farm’s goals came from Craygon Adams and K-Jay Ollivierre.
Likewise, a new champion was installed in the Junior Division of the secondary schools’ category, as St Martin’s defeated the Bishop’s College Kingstown, 4-1 on penalties.
The two were tied one goal apiece in regulation and extra time. Hoyte opened the scoring for St Martin’s with Joenaldo Payne equalizing from the penalty spot.
But in the final match of the night, the Barrouallie Secondary made three straight titles in the senior division, downing the Bethel High, 4-0.
Jaymarie Jack hit a brace, and there was one each from Ronaldo Franklyn and Mosary Harry.
Awards
The best goal keeper in the primary schools’ category was the Owia Government’s Damian Nanton, with St Martin’s Dillon Patterson, the recipient in the Junior Division of the Secondary Schools, and Barrouallie’s Devon Morgan, the awardee in the Senior Division.
Carting off with the Best Defenders awards among the secondary schools were Malachi Mc Master- St Martin’s and Lerence Benjamin- Barrouallie.
Taking the Best Midfielder accolade in the Primary Schools’ Division was Owia’s Terrique Pollard;
Junior Secondary Division – Beau Hoyte of St Martin’s and Senior Secondary Division – Jaymarie Jack of Barrouallie.
The top goal scorer in the Primary Schools’ Division was Paget Farm’s K- Jay Ollivierre with 23 goals, Junior Secondary Division – Jaymor Williams of the Bishop’s College Kingstown with 20 goals and Georgetown’s Mitron John in the Senior Division. John scored 13 goals.
The MVPs of the finals were Terrique Pollard, Beau Hoyte and Jaymarie Jack.
And, there was a special award to the Most Outstanding Female in the Primary Division, which was won by Nathalia John of the CW Prescod Primary. She scored three goals.
