SVG Rugby Union teams suffer defeats in Barbados friendlies
The St Vincent and the Grenadines Rugby Union fielded two teams, male and female, at a Rugby 7’s Tournament that took place Saturday, September 30, at the Garrison Savannah, Barbados.
However, it was not a triumphant return, as both teams lost all their matches.
Facing the Jet Blues, essentially Barbados’ senior men’s team, the Vincentian men were beaten 38-5.
Taking on the H1X, the Vincentians suffered a similar fate, as they suffered 36-5 and 27-7 defeats to their counterparts.
There was no respite for the St Vincent and the Grenadines women, as their Barbadian opponents won comfortably, 36-0, 42-0 and 24-0.
The tour was rearranged to make amends for a failed one to Canada in August, as St Vincent and the Grenadines was forced to opt out of the 2023 Rugby Americas North (RAN) Olympic qualifiers tournament hosted in Vancouver Island, Langford, Canada, August 19 and 20.
A Vincentian contingent of 28, inclusive of 24 players and four officials was set to leave St Vincent and the Grenadines on August 16 for the tournament.
However, flight delays, then cancellation, prevented the Vincentians from leaving for their first journey to Barbados, en route to Canada.
