Eighteen to represent SVG at Junior Caribbean Squash Tourney

When the 2023 edition of the National Lotteries Authority Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association Tournament opens here tomorrow July 15, host country, St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) will be represented by 18 players.

Listed in the Under-11 is one female- Amiyah Bascombe, and two males – Ethan Webster and Za’mar Welcome- Hannaway .

In the Under-13 age group there is also one female- Caeli George, along with two male representatives- Savante Padmore, and Aiden De Freitas.

The Vincentian line up in the Under-15s, comprises females: Zoe Martin, Natalia Olton and Naira- kye John; and males: Jayden George, Dru Samuel and De’ron Lewis.

In the Under-17 age category, Ciara George is the lone female, alongside males- Kyle James, Oneil Sprott, and Jaydon Williams.

And, female player- Nadira Morgan and male player- de Vere James, will contest the Under-19 category.

They team is being coached by Amber Glasgow, Jason Doyle, Kevin Hannaway, Othneil Bailey and Jules Snagg.

The Vincentians will pit their skills against opponents from Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin

Islands, Cayman Islands, Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Guyana fields the largest grouping of players- 29, followed by Trinidad and Tobago- 22, Barbados – 21, Jamaica -19, Bermuda- 17, Cayman Islands- 14, and the British Virgin Islands- 9.

The National Squash Centre, Paul’s Avenue and the La Vue Hotel Courts at Villa, are the venues for the tournament.

Competition begins in earnest tomorrow, July 15, with the Individual segment, and runs until Monday July, 17.

Tuesday, July 18, sees the opening ceremony taking place, along with the double quarter finals,with double semis and finals carded for the next day, July 19.

The next three days, July 20-22, are set aside for the team competition.

The tournament closes on Saturday, July 22,

St Vincent and the Grenadines last hosted the Junior CASA Tournament in 1986. It also hosted the first Junior CASA Tournament in 1981.
