Glenside cops Greiggs Football title
The champion honours of the Caesar’s Real Estate Greiggs Football League, have been bestowed on Glenside Ballers.
This, after the Marriaqua outfit, registered a 2-0 triumph over Awesome FC, last Sunday, June 25, at the well grassed Antoine Playing Field in Lauders.
Glenside’s win was orchestrated by a goal each from Zidane Sam and Figo Pope, as well as some excellent goal keeping by their custodian, Anthony Hazell.
The inaugural champs got a shot at the title after defeating Pride and Joy 6-5 on penalties, as both had played to a 2-2 draw in regulation time.
In the other semi-final, Awesome scored an easy 7-3 win over the home team, Greiggs.
But Greiggs ensured that they took away something from their efforts, as they edged out Pride and Joy 4-3, to take the third place.
Champions, Glenside Ball Blazers thus walked away with the winner’s trophy and $1500; second placed Awesome, got $1000 and a trophy, and third placed Greiggs collected $500 and a trophy.
Among the individual awards, Damar Williams of Pride and Joy copped the best goal keeper award, with Rommel Jackson of Awesome, claiming the best defender accolade.
Orlando Trimmingham of Pride and Joy secured the best midfielder title, and Greiggs’ Osaie Delpesche took the award for most goals and MVP of the competition. Delpesche netted 13 goals.
