Sion Hill does divisional double in National Netball Championship
The Sion Hill Sports Club’s Netball Teams 1 and 2 did the divisional double this year when they won the Divisions Three and Four titles respectively in the 2023 Bank of St. and the Grenadines sponsored National Netball Championships, hosted by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association (SVGNA).
Team 1 amassed a total of 10 points from six games played to win the Division Three title, ahead of Maple (2) in second place, also with 10 points from six matches played. Third place was won by FOGSCO Country Blazers with eight points from six matches played.
Sion Hill team 2, amassed 12 points from their six matches to win the Division Four title, ahead of second placed SVG General Services Maple, with 10 points from six matches played, and BSS Warriors in third place with eight points from six matches played.
Michelle Wiseman-Sam, the coach of the two teams, was very proud with the achievement of her two teams. She was pleased with the effort by the players, and thankful for the assistance and support from the parents of the players, for the trust placed in her, the sponsors, club officials, and the blessings of the God which made it possible for them to do the double.
“I am so happy that we won. It was not an easy road- with each individual with different personalities coming together as one team, but we did it,” Wiseman-Sam told SEARCHLIGHT.
“I usually say to them that we are a team, but we are mostly a family, and families always stick together… no matter what.”
She recalled that even when the championships had already begun “we kept practising, because I know we always have to practice to get to be the best …”.
Wiseman-Sam said she felt encouraged with the players who, even after a match, would ask her when is the next practice session “which is so commendable because these ladies love Netball …. They really, really love Netball.”
