Georgetown Secondary and Bethel High win Schools’ Volleyball titles
THE GEORGETOWN Secondary School (GSS) won its sixth consecutive title as Male Volleyball Champions when the 2023 Schools’ Volleyball competition ended last Friday, March 31, at the Arnos Vale Netball Complex. The Bethel High School walked away with the Female equivalent.
Facing arch rivals and three times title holders, the George Stephens Senior Secondary School, the Georgetown Secondary came from behind to win 17-25, 25-15, 15-10.
The school’s reign began in 2015, and was only interrupted by the aborted competition in 2020; there was no competition in 2021 and 2022.
Defeated finalist, the George Stephens Senior Secondary School was aiming for their fourth lien on the title, having won the inaugural competition in 2012, and held it in 2013 and 2014 before being dethroned by the GSS.
Even as the GSS males claimed their sixth title, the Bethel High School females registered their maiden win defeating four-time champions, the GSS, to be crowned the 2023 Female Champions.
Bethel High won in straight sets over the GSS, 27-25, 25-21, to join the St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown and the Girls’ High School (two titles each) as the other schools to have won the competition since its start in 2012.
The Dr J.P Eustace Memorial Secondary won the third place in the Male Division, and in the Female Division, the Girls’ High School placed third.
The female MVP title went to Ciara Browne of the Bethel High School, and Dishawm Alexander
of the Georgetown Secondary School was adjudged MVP for the males.
