Clinchers defeat Police in opening game of National Club Championships
Dutch Lady Clinchers defeated the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) netball team 47-24 in a Division 2 match in the opening salvo of the 2023 St. Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association’s Bank of St. Vincent and the Grenadines sponsored National Club Championships on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at the Nutricia Netball Centre, New Montrose.
Leading Clinchers’ victory was goal-shooter, Meshanda Creese who scored 29 of 37 attempts at goal; goal-attack Kenisha Francis, 10 from 17 attempts; and Kafiann Lewis 8 of 14.
For police, goal-shooter Rochelle Franklyn scored 19 of 32 attempts, and goal-attack Tamisha Bute had 5 from 14 attempts.
Meanwhile, in the male All Star game which followed, All Stars 2 won 36 – 24 over All Stars 1. For All Stars 2 goal-shooter, Jermaine John netted 23 of 37 attempts, and goal-attack Jahmal Small made it 13 of 28 attempts.
For All Stars 1, goal-shooter Christopher Baynes, scored 7 of 11 attempts; goal-attack Roy Hamilton had 15 of 29 attempts; and Akeil Matthews netted 2 of 3 attempts.
Twenty-five teams have registered to compete in five divisions of the tournament which will have four divisions of female teams and one for male netballers.
Twenty matches are scheduled to be played in the first two weeks of competition as follows:
Male Division- Maca Crushers; Mitre Elite; X-ceed Knights.
Division 1 – Inter-Island Trading/DHL Mitres; On Trac X-ceed 1.
Division 2 – Bagga United; CashWiz Green Hill; Dutch Lady Clinchers; National Properties Netters; On Trac X-ceed 2; RSVG Police.
Division 3 – All Stars; Courage Bakery Netters; FOGSCO Country Blazers; Maple; Sion Hill Sports Club 1; Total Ten Technologies Netters.
Division 4 – BSS Warriors; Mitre Elite; Chacharas Stars; SVG General Service Maple; X-ceed Sports Club; Sion Hill Sports Club 2; Success Radio Netters; Blaze Strikers.
