Central Leeward and Troumaca Secondary take gold in cross country race
The Central Leeward Secondary School (CLSS), and the Troumaca/Ontario Secondary School, began the 2023 sports season on a dominant note, by taking gold in the Inter-secondary Schools Cross Country race.
The CLSS won in the boys division in the race which was staged at the decommissioned E.T Joshua airport on Wednesday, January 18; while the Troumaca/Ontario Secondary placed first in the Girls Division.
It took the CLSS females a time of 1 hour, 49 minutes, 20.48 seconds to complete the 4-k distance, successfully defending the title they won in 2022.
Crossing the finish line to take silver was the Troumaca/Ontario Secondary School in a time of 1 hour, 50 minutes, 11.65 seconds; with the bronze going to the Georgetown Secondary School, in a time of 2 hours, 1 minute, 29.82 seconds.
The fortunes were reversed in the 6-k Boys race when the Toumaca/Ontario Secondary School Boys team won gold in a time of 2 hours, 5 minutes, 38.96 seconds. The Central Leeward Secondary School took silver in a time of 2 hours, 12 minutes, 41.38 seconds, and bronze was won by the St. Martin’s Secondary School in 2 hours, 13 minutes, 52.91 seconds.
Wednesday’s race was the first in the 2023 Inter-Secondary Schools athletic season, which will see a number of schools hosting their individual meets.
