The National Lotteries Authorities (NLA) is expected to continue utilizing its annual calendar to continue highlighting sports. Marketing manager, Anthony Dennie, said with all of the outstanding performances in 2022, the NLA “felt it is necessary that we give these youngsters an opportunity to highlight their talent.”
The 2023 calendar of the NLA features 15 photos of sporting action, including Carifta 100-metre bronze and 200-metre silver medallist, Keo Davis; the Central Leeward Secondary School the 2022 Boys and Girls Inter-Secondary School Athletic champions; and the Stephanie Browne Primary School, the Inter-Primary schools Athletics champions, among others.
In an interview with SEARCHLIGHT, Dennie pointed out that while this year’s calendar has more photos of sporting activities than in previous years, “from the calendar perspective…this is something that we have been doing for years.”
“…we felt it necessary to highlight the achievements of our athletes, especially since…the coming into being of the Sir Vincent Beache Stadium, where last year for the first time, we had the Inter-secondary and Inter-primary schools Athletics Championships taking place on a synthetic track,” In the past, the NLA has featured sports personalities from various sporting disciplines.
“I would agree that we have certainly done a lot more in 2023 to project, and to showcase our athletes,” Dennie said, “added to that, our mandate is certainly to ensure that we promote sports in Vincent and the Grenadines and that mandate, we at the NLA, will endeavour to maintain such.”
He said the NLA recognized the improvement in performances at the 2022 Inter-secondary and Inter-primary Schools Athletics Championships, respectively, which was followed by the performances of Keo Davis at the 2022 Carifta Games where he captured bronze in the Boys Under-17 100-metres, and silver in the 200-metres. Additionally, he noted the improvement of the national swimmers at the Commonwealth Games, the crowning of the Central Leeward Secondary School as Boys and Girls Secondary Schools Athletics champions and the continued dominance of the Stephanie Browne Primary School, capturing the 2022 Inter-primary Schools Athletics championships, and the performances of the national netball team which saw St. Vincent and the Grenadines moving up the world rankings.
