Ryan is double National Under-20 record holder
Uroy Ryan is now the holder of two St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) Under-20 male records in Track and Field. The Jamaica- based Ryan, who before last Saturday, January 7, held the Long Jump title, added the Triple Jump to his list.
Competing for Jamaica College at the Pure Water R Danny William Invitational Track and Field Development Meet held at his home patch at the Jamaica College’s Ashenheim Stadium, Ryan leapt to 14.76m to place second, behind Trevon Cramer’s 15.15m. Cramer is also a Jamaica College student.
In the process, Ryan erased the previous best distance set by Ronaldo Andrews in 2022. Andrews’ leap then was 14.51m.
Ryan, better known for his Long Jump prowess, re-established the national Under-20 record in that event last year, when he registered 7.75m at the ISSA Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Championships at the Jamaica National Stadium.
At that outing he pouched a silver medal.
In 2022, Ryan got his first Junior Carifta medal, when he copped silver in the Under-20 Long Jump, with a distance of 7.52m, and replicated that placing at the Penn Relays. However his 7.54m was heavily wind assisted.
He reached the last eight in the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Colombia.
Ryan is expected to carry the brunt of St Vincent and the Grenadines’ hopes at this year’s 50th Junior Carifta Games, set for the Easter weekend in the Bahamas.
