Joachim preps for Carifta Swim Championships
Jamie Joachim boosted preparations for this weekend’s Carifta Swim Championships in Barbados, when she competed in the 21st edition of the Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre (RHAC) Invitational Meet in St Lucia from April 6-10.
Representing the Black Sands Swim Squad, Joachim who competed in the Girls 13 to 14, was prefect, copping gold in all 10 events.
She won the 200m Individual Medley; the 50m, 100m and 200m Butterfly; the 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyle; as well as the 50m, 100m and 200m Backstroke.
In the process, Joachim returned her personal bests in the 50m and 100m Butterfly. Her best time in the 50m event now stands at 31.05s, and her personal best in the 100m Butterfly has been reduced to 1:09.21.
Apart from Joachim, the BSSS was represented by Kione De Shong, who contested the Boys 9-10.
De Shong finished third in his age group. He copped gold in the 100m Butterfly and secured bronze medals in the 200m Freestyle and the 100m Backstroke.
Joachim will be among 11swimmers who will represent St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), at the Championships which return after a two -year hiatus because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Also in the squad are Eltonique Leonard ( Girls 11 to 12), Kennice Greene, Kevern Da Silva , and Zariel Nelson ( Girls 13 to 14), along with Brandon George and Matthew Ballah ( Boys 13 to 14).
The other selectees also include the lone female in the Girls 15 to 17 age group, Tia Gun Munro while the trio of Bryson George, Eltonte Leonard and Kenale Alleyne are the competitors in the Boys 15 to 17 age group.
The Carifta Swim Championships run from April 16-19.
