Reduced team for NACAC Age Group Championships

Israel Cumberbatch of the St Vincent Grammar School and Jahene Williams of the Barrouallie Secondary School, will be St Vincent and the Grenadines’ only two representatives at the NACAC Age Group Championships, slated for Managua, Nicaragua next month.

Both will compete in the male Under-15 division, as they seek honours in the 80m hurdles, the 80m, 1200m, long jump, high jump, shot putt and baseball throw.

The two emerged best among their peers when Team Athletics SVG hosted a trial last month, to select the team for the championships.

Reports are that the high cost of airfare negated Team Athletics SVG from sending the full complement of eight athletes. The championships make provisions for four athletes in each of the age groups – Under-13 and Under-15. As such, two males and two females from both age categories can compete.

Cumberbatch and Williams are slated to leave for Nicaragua on December 12, with their scheduled return date being December 22.

They will be accompanied by manager/ coach – Rawlson Morgan.
