Mc Coy ruled out of ICC World Cup

Vincentian Obey Mc Coy’s woes with injury has continued, as he has been ruled out of the current ICC men’s T/20 World Cup, taking place in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

A recurring foot injury is the cause for Mc Coy being deemed unfit to continue in the tournament.

Mc Coy, a 24-year-old left-arm fast bowler, played in the West Indies’ first match last Saturday versus England in Dubai, but was not featured in his team’s second match on Tuesday against South Africa.

Mc Coy has been replaced by Jason Holder, after his inclusion was approved by ICC’s Technical Committee.

Touted as one of the West Indies best death bowlers and critical to the West Indies’ set up, Mc Coy played a leading role in the West Indies T/20 series versus Sri Lanka, Australia and Pakistan, in the lead up to the World Cup.

However, his appearances in the Caribbean Premier League were limited to three matches for the St Lucia Kings.

Since making his T/20 international debut in 2019, Mc Coy has played 13 matches, taking 19 wickets at a cost of 16.8 runs. Fourteen of Mc Coy’s wickets came during this year.
