Wayne Williams in SVGOC presidential race

Wayne Ferdinand Williams, who currently holds the post of first vice-president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee, will be vying for the presidency, when the Special General Meeting is held November 12.

Williams made this disclosure to SEARCHLIGHT yesterday, Thursday, October 7, stating in an email: “As you may have suspected, I am officially announcing that I will be contesting the position of President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee”.

Williams, a former president of the SVG Basketball Federation, will be seeking to take over from long-standing president, Trevor “Sailor” Bailey, who will not stand for re-election. Bailey has been at the helm of the organisation since 1997.

Bailey was re-elected in 2017, when he defeated Stephen Joachim, 10-7. Accordingly, it was the lone occasion in which Bailey was challenged for the position.

The rest of the outgoing executive includes Keith Joseph – general secretary, Jacintha Ballantyne – treasurer; Shaun Young – assistant secretary treasurer, along with trustees – Earl Bennett and Stephen Joachim.

SEARCHLIGHT understands that Joachim and Vanburn Harry have also indicated their intentions to contest the presidency, while president of the SVG Basketball Federation has shown interest in becoming the vice-president.
