Finals decided ahead of National Championships

Eight field events finals were completed on the first day of the National Championships’ trials, which were held last Saturday at the Diamond Track.

Securing two first places was Samaaya Connell of X-Cel Track Club, who won the female Under-17 shot putt, with a distance of 9.55m, and took the high jump event with a best clearance of 1.55m.

Omario Dick, also of X-Cel Track, claimed the male Under-17 shot putt, when he flung 10.97m with the implement.

Also claiming three first places were athletes from the X-Ceed Sports Club. J’ Aivar Cato won the male Under-15 high jump with a height of 1.60m, while Kodi Grant secured the male Under-15 title, by clearing the bar at 1.65m. The other title secured by X-Ceed Sports Club went to Abryanna Simmonds, who threw 6.14m in the Under-20 shot putt.

Meanwhile, Kirk Hamlett won the male Under-20 shot putt (12.98m) and Zekisha Kelly of Mustangs, trumped the female Under-15 high jump (1.60m).

The second day of trials, takes place this Saturday, also at the Diamond Track, ahead of the National Championships, carded for July 3 and 4, at the same venue.
