Mc Coy recalled… Williams dropped

VINCENTIAN OBED MC COY has been recalled to the West Indies T/20 team, after making his debut against England here in the Caribbean in 2019.

Mc Coy, 24, a left-arm fast bowler, was named in a 14-member team to face Sri Lanka at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, on March 3, 5 and 7.

Despite having only two T/20 International matches under his belt, Mc Coy had a good season in the 2021 Abu Dhabi T/10 league in January/ February. In his debut season, he collected 10 wickets, playing for Team Abu Dhabi.

But while Mc Coy is back in the team, another Vincentian, Kesrick Williams, has been axed.

Williams, who was part of the regional team T/20 squad that toured New Zealand last November, did not find favour with the selectors.

When the West Indies team was announced last Friday for three matches versus the Sri Lankans, it saw the inclusion of uncapped spinners Akeal Hosein and Kevin St Clair. Also in the team are Chris Gayle and Fidel Edwards. Gayle, 41, last played a T20I for the West Indies in 2019, while the 39-year-old Edwards appeared in his last, back in 2012.

Meanwhile, Dwayne Bravo, 37, who missed out on the tour New Zealand last November because of injury after being selected, is another experienced player returning to the set up. Likewise, Lendl Simmons, who played his last T/20I in March 2020 and Evin Lewis, whose last T20I appearance was in January last year.

The rest of the team which will be led by Kieron Pollard, has Nicholas Pooran as vice- captain, along with Fabian Allen, Andre Fletcher, Jason Holder and Rovman Powell.

The three matches will be playing under the lights, bowling off at 6 pm.
