SVG docks second in Windwards U-15 cricket tournament
St Vincent and the Grenadines had its best showing in many years in the Winlott Inc. Windward Islands tournament, finishing second behind the host St Lucia.
When the 2018 tournament ended on Monday, St Vincent and the Grenadines had earned 19 points.
The Vincentians’ tally of points was gained from three wins, one each against the other three opponents, St Lucia, Dominica and Grenada, while having to share the points following an abandoned match versus Dominica.
St Vincent and the Grenadines, though registered losses to Grenada and St Lucia, as the tournament had two rounds of matches.
St Vincent and the Grenadines ended on a winning note on Monday, beating Dominica by 53 runs.
Batting first, St Vincent and the Grenadines posted 188 all out from 49.5 overs. Oryan Velox scored 36, Kirtney Franklyn, 30, Mario Baptiste, 28 and Reshawn Lewis, 23.
In reply, Dominica was dismissed for 135 from 38.3 overs, with Stephen Pascal stroking 63.
Bowling for St Vincent and the Grenadines, Raynolly Hillocks took 4 for 14, Luke Wilson, 2 for 18 and Joe Williams, 2 for 22.
St Lucia, though, finished on 24 points, Grenada – 18 and Dominica at the foot of the table on 7 points.
Meanwhile, Vincentian Keshawn Lewis collected three individual awards.
Lewis was named the best wicketkeeper, pouching 12 catches and two stumpings.
In addition, Lewis was the tournament’s leading run-scorer, with 187.
Inclusive in this aggregate, was a knock of 111 versus Grenada.
Lewis was the St Vincent and the Grenadines MVP.
The tournament’s leading wicket taker was Grenada’s Kerwyn Gangadeen, who scalped 16 wickets. He was also his country’s MVP.
The other MVPs were Stephen Pascal – Dominica and Kevin Gassie – St Lucia.
