Central Leeward Athletics Championships fuelled by Rubis
Rubis, for the second year running, has ensured that the Central Leeward Secondary Schoolâs (CLSS) track and field championships was operating on all cylinders.
Hence, the petroleum company assisted with trophies, medals and some of the other costs associated with the event, which was staged at the Victoria Park, recently.
Rubisâ country representative Elroy Edwards shared with SEARCHLIGHT his companyâs association with the CLSS.
âWe are happy to be associated with the Central Leeward Secondary School, as we, as a company, have a strong commitment with the youths â¦
We see this as an opportunity for the next generation of athletes to be in the limelight and expose their talents,â Edwards stated with satisfaction.
Edwards hoped that the athletes from the school will go on to greater things in life, as they continue their athletics, as well as their academic journey.
Edwards acknowledged that there is a rich sporting tradition at the school, and is glad that his company is playing its part in the upkeep of that legacy.
Commenting on the dayâs activities, Edwards noted that there was intense rivalry among the houses and as a witness to the meet for the second time, âit was again excitingâ.
But even as the events were tucked away until next year, Scott House (Red), left the Victoria Park the happy lot, as they outpointed the three other houses.
Scott House finished on 1,060 points and was 224 points clear of Lewis House (Orange), who tallied 836 points.
âTaking the third spot was Bailey House (Blue) â 831 points, and occupying the last place was James House (Green), with 780 points.
âAwards
âApart from taking the overall championships, Scott House carted off the bulk of the individual awards.
âScott House won the junior female title through the performance of Ashanti Richards, who had 34 points to her name.
âThe pair of Ulanda Lewis and Chaunte Williams could not be separated, as they shared the female intermediate title, with 32 points each.
âJamal Young was the male intermediate champ, recording 33 points, as Scott House swept that category.
âAnd, it was all Scott House in the senior division, as Aaliyah Anderson and Shemar Welcome took the female and male awards, respectively. Anderson compiled 47 points and Welcome, 32.
âAnderson also took the victrix ludorum title.
âThe lone divisional award that escaped Scott Houseâs grasp was the junior male trophy, which was copped by Jovie Charles of Lewis House. Charlesâ 44 points also earned him the victor ludorum title.ââ
