Bequia Rising Stars, Blue Chip trump U-18 3×3 qualifiers
Bequia Rising Stars copped the male division and the Blue Chip Basketball Academy â the female bracket of the SVG Basketball Federationâs 3×3 Under-18 qualifiers.
Held last Friday at the Girlsâ High School (GHS) hard court, the two successful units earned the right to represent St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) at the Antilles tournament, set for Barbados in January, 2018.
Bequia Rising Stars, represented by Jermaine John, Jadley Bynoe, Nicholas Lewis and Dario Bynoe, defeated the Union Island quartet in the final.
Meanwhile, Blue Chip Basketball Academy Team One had the better of the team from the St Josephâs Convent Kingstown in their showdown for the national representation honours.
Representing the Blue Chip Basketball Academy were Jada Peters, Rhadawn Bibby, Angelika John and Ashantae Williams.
3×3 basketball comprises a team of four, with three players contesting a team of similar number.
This fast-paced format of the sport, utilizes half of the court, with matches of 10 minutes duration.
Teams are allowed a single time out, with the first team to score 11 points winning the contest.
Notably, no coaching is permitted during 3×3 basketball matches.
The Ministry of Education, National Reconciliation, Ecclesiastical Affairs and Information, in conjunction with the SVG Basketball Federation, will restart its full-fledged Secondary Schoolsâ Basketball Tournament, set to commence January 25, 2018.(RT)
