Taking the most outstanding male award in the learn to swim category was Javique Roberts, with Zariel Nelson the female recipient.

The stand-outs in the competition category were Bryson George (male) and Kennice Greene (female).

George and Greene copped other individual awards.

During the calendar year 2015, George registered the best times among his peers in the 9 to 10, in the butterfly, breaststroke, the 100 metres backstroke, as well as the 100 and 200 metres individual medleys.

Greene was rewarded for attaining the best time in the age group 8 and under females, in the butterfly, free style and backstrokes.

Joining in the spotlight was Jayson Sandy, who was listed as clocking the best time in the 8 and under male age group in the butterfly, freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke.

Meanwhile, the most improved male swimmer, according to the coaches, was Kenale Alleyne and the most improved female Adiah Phillips.

Likewise, Phillips added the fastest time among the 8 and under females in the breaststroke to her list of achievements.

Not to be left out, Alleyne also pouched the awards for best male at the freestyle and 50 metres backstroke in the 9-10 age group.

One of the club’s coaches, Rickydene Alexander, told SEARCHLIGHT that the awards were another way of showing appreciation to the swimmers for their efforts.

Alexander noted that it was the first time the club was hosting such an awards ceremony, although it has been around for the past 15 years.

He projected that there would be other such occasions in the future.

Apart from Alexander, the other coaches in the Blue Marlins set-up are Niesha Alexander and Sarah Smith.

Niesha Alexander said it was a good year for the club, as other than the swimmers’ successes in the pool, both here in St Vincent and the Grenadines and in the neighbouring territories, the club was able to host a Breaststroke Relay Classic, in which a donation of over $2,000 was presented to SCORCH, a cancer support foundation here in St Vincent and the Grenadines.(RT)
