Road tennis hits off at Nine Mornings
The proposed formal introduction of road tennis to St Vincent and the Grenadines got into gear during the observance of the annual Nine Mornings festivities in Kingstown.{{more}}
Put on by the Sean Stanley Table Tennis Academy, the events evolved into two sets of competition, which took place in front of the Bank of SVG compound on Granby Street.
In the end, two champions emerged in the persons of Ted Roberts Jr and national and OECS junior squash player Mikal Quashie.
The first play-off saw Roberts, who is better known for his football skills, overcoming another upcoming youth footballer Denzil Bascombe in the final 8-11, 12-10, 11-9, in a very competitive match.
In the semi-finals, Roberts saw off Erel Hector â 11-9, while Bascombe stopped Quashie 11- 7.
The second play-off resulted in Quashie defeating Stephorn Samuel, 11/6, 11/3, 11/8.
Before getting to the final, Quashie beat Roberts Jr, 11/6 and Samuel got the better of Bascombe, 11/6.
The staging of the competition follows on the heels of a recent visit by Michelle Straughn of the Professional Road Tennis Association of Barbados, who donated a set of balls and a net to the Division of Physical Education and Sports.(RT)
