Chief organizer of the event Ulrick Gurley told SEARCHLIGHT that it was a success because the main objectives were achieved.

“The objectives were to have events to assess the athletes as they head into the 2016 track and field season and to see how much work the coaches have put in,” Gurley noted.

“The event was keenly contested, even though it was a friendly duel,” he added.

Gurley revealed that his club was able to get some good competition from the IT-DAT Academy, the lone club from the mainland who made the trip over.

The events contested were the 4x800m, the 4x200m and the 4x100m.

Gurley thanked all those who assisted in making the event possible, including the Division of Physical Education and Sports, Knights Trading on Bequia, the Bequia Hospital, Kendale Mercury, IT-DAT Academy, the Bequia United committee members, Team Athletics SVG and Garth De Shong.

The Bequia United Club will be reciprocating this Wednesday, to compete in the IT-DAT Academy development meet at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.(RT)
