Bequia to host Relay Classic December 18

The Bequia United Club, in conjunction with the Pan American Development Foundation on Bequia, will, on December 18, host a Relay Classic of its own at the Clive Tannis Playing Field, beginning at 10 a.m.{{more}}

It will, however, not be an all Bequia affair, as mainland based clubs System Three and IT-DAT Academy have already confirmed participation with that of X-Cel also pending.

The categories for the four-leg events are Under-19, Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-18, Under-20 and 20 and Over, for both male and female.

Among the events are the 4×80 shuttle, 4×100, 4x 200, 4×400, and 4x 800, along with the medley relay which will comprise two 4x100s, a 4 x 200 and a 4×400. The latter, though, is open only to the Under-18, Under-20 and the 20 and over.

Ulrick Gurley, spokesperson for the staging of the event, told SEARCHLIGHT that the main aim is to prepare his club’s athletes for the 2016 national track programme, as well as to reignite the sport on the island.

Gurley said that his club is banking on technical support from the Division of Physical Education and Sports.(RT)
