Sion Hill Netball Tournament tucked away until 2016
Hot favourites Bakerâs Bakery Layou snatched the Division One title of the Vita Malt Sion Hill Netball Knockout Competition last Sunday evening at the Sion Hill Playing Field hard court.{{more}}
Layou overcame Nice Radio Clinchers, leading in all quarters 21-17, 41-22, 57-35 and finally winning 69-46.
For Layou, Gailene Gordon poured in 60 of her 76 attempts and Janet Christopher registered 9 of her 12. Clinchersâ tally came from Khadijah Williams, who scored 24 of her 35 tries and Danielle Spencer had 22 of her 37 successful.
It was the icing on the cake for the Layou outfit, who had to settle for second place in the league competition, behind Yanja Young Strugglers.
Meanwhile, Layouâs Gailene Gordon was the Top Shooter Overall in the league competition, netting 108 of her 126 attempts.
Taking the Most Disciplined Player award was Princess Chapman of Division Two league winners Sion Hill, while Pacers Netball Team copped the Most Disciplined Team award.
Chapman collected $250 and Pacers $300, compliments area representative for East Kingstown Arnhim Eustace.
The other team awards showed Sion Hill once again taking Division Two league and knockout titles.
Sydney Strikers was second and Stinger Girls finished third in the league format.
Placing third in the Division One league was Disputed Vets Star Girls.
In addition, a player from each of the 10 teams that participated in the competition collected teamsâ MVP awards.
The recipients for Division Two were Samantha Carrington â Sion Hill, Tyiesha Joseph â Sydney Strikers, Kerry Ann Small â Stingers Girls, with Nicole London getting it for Pacers Netball Team and Debbie Robinson â Everready Future Stars.
Copping the awards in Division One were Curlyn John â Layou; Kayshorn Lowman â Disputed Vets Star Girls; Delonie Sam â Sea Operations Nar Fren Dem; Kenisha Francis â Nice Radio Clinchers and Roseclair Hall â Yanja Young Strugglers.(RT)
