Kenyan, Trinidadian boss Chatoyer Endurance 10K
Kenneth Rotich of Kenya was the first person to cross the finish line in last Sundayâs NACAC Chatoyer 10K Endurance, put on by Team Athletics SVG.{{more}}
Leading from the start at Gordon Yard, Rotich was also the first to cross the 5k mark, and completed the course, which ended in light showers at the Chateaubelair Playing Field, in 39 minutes 48 seconds.
Next in was homeboy Pamenos Ballantyne in 41 minutes 30 seconds, with another veteran campaigner on the regional circuit, Trinidadian Curtis Cox, placing third in 42 minutes 30 seconds.
Rotich collected US$1,000, plus an additional $100 for being the first at the halfway mark, while Ballantyne earned himself $700 and Cox, $500.
In the womenâs race, Trinidadian Tonya Nero was first in 42 minutes 31 seconds.
And, mirroring the men, St Vincent and the Grenadines had a double second, as Linda Mc Dowall, in 47 minutes 47 seconds, trailed Nero, and Fanjanteino Felix of Martinique docked in third in 48 minutes 26 seconds.
Like their male counterparts, the prize distribution was the same.
The other categories, which featured local participation, saw the IT-DAT Academy being the dominant force.
Among IT-DATâs wins was the taking of the three top places in the male Under-20.
Ryan John in 47 minutes 43 seconds was first, ahead of Akani Slaterâs 49 minutes 51 seconds and Slyford Lampkin â third in 50 minutes 53 seconds.
John earned EC$600; Slater â $300 and Lampkin â $200.
The female Over-20 saw the participation of two athletes, with Samantha Lynch of Sa-Sa Club finishing ahead of Sandrika Hooper, who competed unattached. Lynchâs time was one hour 12 minutes and Hooper â one hour 17 minutes 58 seconds. Lynch pocketed EC$600 and Hooper â $300.
Meanwhile, Kerina Hooper, representing X- Ceed, copped the first place in the female Under-20. Her winning time was in one hour 1 minute 55 seconds, with Sorenya Miller and Tara Joseph, both of IT DAT, second and third, in that order.
The top three places pocketed EC$400, $300 and $150, respectively.
IT-DAT Academy, through Meshach Dublin, was the winner in the male Over-20, clocking 42 minutes 8 seconds. Cyron Lewis of X-Ceed was second in 43 minutes 52 seconds and third â Caswell Lewis of IT-DAT, whose time was 44 minutes 49 seconds.
IT- DAT, in addition, took the team prize of EC$300.
All 38 runners who started the race stayed the course to the end.
Named the âThe Worldâs Most Challenging 10Kâ, Sunday âs event also had other overseas participation from Grenadaâs Tallan Joseph and Kenisha Pascal; Cubaâs Julia Penate, as well as Yahia Haiji and Fabianna Massolin of Martinique.(RT)
