Facing the host, it was no home advantage, as Union Island romped to a 75-63 win over the Bequia All Stars outfit.

Steveon Taylor led Union Island’s scoring with 25 points, with Kirstin Lampkin putting in 16 points for Bequia.

Before getting to the finals, Union Island overcame Mayreau, 82 to 61, on Friday night at the same venue in the semi-final. Taylor had 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Damian Forde was Mayreau’s top scorer with 13 points.

In the other half of the semis, Bequia edged out Canouan Islanders 67- 65 in a hotly contested affair. Kirstin Lampkin contributed 16 points and 11 rebounds to Bequia’s efforts, while Damian Harry had a game high of 26 points for Canouan.

Canouan, however, went on to take the third place, downing Mayreau 105 – 69, which preceded Saturday’s final.

Warrican Myers was the hot hand for Canouan with 34 points and 14 rebounds, and Rashaun Forde poured in 22 points for Mayreau.

Myers was adjudged the overall Most Valuable Player of the Championships, as well as his team’s MVP.

In chalking up his accolade, Myers had the most points – 119, the most rebounds – 99 and most blocks – 15. Bequia All-Stars’ Kelan Edwards took the most steals award with 15, while Union Island’s Kenny Alexander had the most assists – 29.

Dareo Glasgow of Union was adjudged his team’s MVP, while Keithroy Lavia was Bequia’s recipient. Taking the MVP award for Mayreau was Nemiah Alexander.

Tournament co-ordinator Sabrina Mitchell announced at last Saturday’s closing ceremony that the 2016 edition will be brought forward to the month of May.(RT)
