Diamond United add SEDI football title to list
Diamond United took the league title of the Hairoun South East Development Inc (SEDI) Stubbs competition last Sunday at the Stubbs Playing Field, adding to the first place they earned in the Calliaqua league earlier this year.{{more}}
In notching up the Stubbs competition, Diamond United had to get past GECCU Calliaqua with 5-4 from the penalty spot in fading light.
The kicks from the penalty spot became necessary after both teams had played to a 3-3 draw. Kevorn Hadaway, Curlan Joseph and Ammain John scored for Diamond, while Lezlo Mc Kenzie netted twice and Zeddie Millington was the other player who registered Calliaquaâs items in regulation time.
Diamond collected $1,500, Calliaqua â $1,200 and third place â Ball Rollers â $1,000.
Brighton Star Block was adjudged the most disciplined team in the senior division and the Police Co-operative Credit Union Bohomme, the recipients in the Under-17 category.
Diamondâs Curlan Joseph, with 10 goals, was the top goal scorer in the senior division.
An emerging talent, Calliaquaâs Osei Thompson, was the lead goal scorer in the Under-17 Division.
Thompsonâs nine goals assisted Calliaqua to head the age group category, which saw System Three falling into second place and Brighton â third.
Meanwhile, Calliaquaâs Clinton Payne was adjudged that segmentâs most outstanding goal-keeper.
Also, each of the participating teams in both divisions had a player identified as its Most Valuable Player, who were each rewarded with a trophy.
Hairoun SVG Broadcasting Grove Street Ballers won the knockout competition.(RT)
