SVGTTA holds another level one coaching course

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Table Tennis Association (SVGTTA) will be holding another International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Level One Coaching Course as part of the development of the National Table Tennis Structure Project, amidst some concerns from one executive member.{{more}}

The course runs from October 12 to 22 and takes place at the St Vincent Grammar School from 5 to 8 p.m. daily (except Sunday).

Once again the facilitator is George Silberschmidt from Switzerland, who, in November 2013, conducted a similar course which also included Para table tennis.

Silberschmidt is no stranger to the region, having carried out similar programmes in St Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, Trinidad and Tobago, Anguilla, and Barbados.

The second coming of Silberschmidt is in keeping with the strategic objective of the SVGTTA, according to a release from the SVGTTA’S president Tyrone Jack, who noted that the coaching programme would be a community based one.

Hence, the invitation is extended to community groups and individuals and would be free of charge.

According to a release from the SVG Table Tennis Association, although it will be an asset, participants need not have played the game of table tennis before.

But this criterion seems not to be unanimous, as public relations officer of the SVGTTA Sean Stanley in responding to the email, questioned: “How can we send out a press release like this? Let’s say for argument sake 200 persons turn up, do we have the equipment and space to host these persons?”

Stanley also enquired: “On the other hand, aren’t we discrediting the kill value of becoming a level one table tennis coach? No experience is needed, no knowledge of the sport before or never played the sport before can land you a LEVEL ONE Certificate? It’s amazing.”

Despite Stanley’s concerns, persons wishing to attend the course can contact Tyrone Jack at telephone numbers: 456-2293 or 454-3217. They must do so before October 4.(RT)
