Special Olympics St Vincent and the Grenadines (SOSVG) last Saturday played its part in celebrating Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day with a Fun Day at the Calliaqua Playing Field.{{more}}

Celebrated under the theme: “Acceptance, Inclusion and Unity,” with the tag line: “Let’s Change the Game,” the fun-filled day, held in energy sapping conditions, did not deter the participants who engaged themselves in football, cricket, bocce, mini rugby, face painting, bouncing castle, among others.

Director of SOSVG Janice Mc Master-O’ Loughlin told SEARCHLIGHT that she was satisfied with the day’s undertaking, despite not getting more participation from members of the general public.

“The athletes though came out and that was important for us,” Mc Master- O’Loughlin noted.

On show were several of the Special Olympians who were part of the successful team that contested this year’s Special Olympic Games in Los Angeles, California last July.

Eunice Kennedy Shiver was the sister of US President John F Kennedy and Senators Robert F Kennedy and Ted Kennedy.

Kennedy Shriver was the founder in 1962 of Camp Shriver, which started on her Maryland farm, known as Timberlawn and in 1968 evolved into the Special Olympics.

The observance of the Eunice Kennedy Shiver Day began in 2010, one year after her death.(RT)
