Simple Boys outshine All Stars in TBPO softball cricket

It was another walk in the park for defending champions of the National Lotteries Authority Top Belair Progressive Organization 20/20 Softball Cricket Competition – Gairy Construction Simple Boys.{{more}}

At the other end of Simple Boys’ onslaught on September 20 at the Dauphine Playing Field was Bank of SVG All Stars. Batting first, All Stars made 115 for 9 in 20 overs. Desmond Bramble top scored with 19.

Bowling for Simple Boys, Travis Cumberbatch picked up 2 for 14 and Elric Morris 2 for 15.

In reply, Simple Boys reached 117 for 2 in just 11.5 overs, as the powerful Jabarri Cunningham stroked 63, to lead his team to an eight-wicket triumph.

Also starring on the weekend was Gomea Bombers, who had back-to-back wins.

First up, Gomea Bombers won by 26 runs over Clinchers.

Bombers’ 81 all out in 17.3 overs was achieved with the contribution of Xavique Alexander’s top score of 25.

Desron Spring, who bagged 4 for 26 and Okeiph Andrews, 2 for 27, led Clinchers’ bowling attack, but their response stopped at 55 all out in 16 overs.

Only Curlan John’s 28 showed any resistance to the bowling of Raymond Sayers, whose 5 for 19 wrecked Clinchers’ batting response. Alwayne Quashie chipped in with 3 for 16.

Then Gomea Bombers dimmed Sunset Strikers by two wickets.

Sunset Strikers made 98 all out in 16.1 overs, undermined by Quashie who bagged 5 for 7 and Raymond Sayers – 3 for 27.

In reply, Bombers reached 102 for 8 in 14.2 overs; Ronel Simon stroked 31. Bowling for Sunset Strikers, Ian Bushay had figures of 3 for 13 and Anthonel Palmer, 2 for 22.

And, Saturday’s lone fixture resulted in a three-wicket win for New Track Guys over Older Boys.

Junior Bacchus compiled 43, to lead New Track Guys to 99 all out in 17 overs. Andre Woods got 3 for 21 and there were two wickets apiece for Noel Miller and Romano Gaymes.

New Track Guys replied with 105 for 7 from 14.4 overs. Bernard Davis hit 38.

There were two wickets each for Urias King, Michael John and Joel Horne.(RT)
