Doyle takes squash award at Commonwealth Youth Games
Vincentian Jason Doyle defeated Benjamin Mekdeci of Guyana 11-6, 7-11, 11-2, 12-10, to take the consolation final in the male squash segment of the Commonwealth Youth Games, which ended last weekend in Apia, Samoa.{{more}}
Before meeting his Caribbean counterpart, Doyle defeated Fook John Shackley of Fiji 11-2, 11-6, 11-6, and before that had an 11-6, 11-2, 11-5, downing of Aidan Rowston of Norfolk Islands.
In the main draw, Doyle, who has the highest world ranking for any Under-19 Caribbean male squash player, lost to Velavan Senthilkumar of India 11-3, 11-4, 11-6.
Ranked 23rd in the world, Doyle was also at the losing end when he teamed up with fellow Vincentian Thandi Myers in the mixed doubles.
The Vincentian pair was beaten by an English duo 11-2, 11-2 and a Scottish combination 11-1, 11-1.
In her singles outing Myers was stopped by Kelsey Manuatu of Samoa 11-6, 11-5, 11-7, and by Eleanor Epke of New Zealand 11-5, 11-2, 11-5.
It was the local squash outfitâs debut outing at the Commonwealth Youth Games.(RT)
