Taylor earns individual accolades in Bequia Basketball
Steveon Taylor of second placed East Blazers was the Most Valuable Player in the First Division of the Vita Malt Bequia Basketball Tournament, which ended last Sunday night at the Clive Tannis hard court in Bequia.{{more}}
Also East Blazersâ MVP, Taylor was adjudged the Most Valuable Player in the competition overall, with an outstanding record of performance, and impressive overall statistics of 171 points, 66 rebounds, 30 assists, 26 steals and 3 blocks in eight games played. He added the award for the most points to his list of accolades.
Taylorâs team-mate Denroy Hutchins secured the trophy for the most blocks with 30 in eight games. Other awards went to Wizardsâ Kamol Hutchins, who had the most rebounds (110) and Xavaughn Dennie, the most steals (36).
And, Elton Joseph of Blazers won the three-point shoot-out and Akeem King, the dunk out.
Meanwhile, despite being dethroned by Rising Stars, Blazing Heats captured all seven of the individual awards presented for outstanding achievements in the Second Division.
Rising Starsâ Cody Compton was awarded Team MVP, as well as the Finals MVP. Fifteen-year-old Nicholas Lewis was chosen as the Second Division Overall MVP, with 114 points, 39 rebounds, 48 assists, 49 steals and six blocks in six games of competition.
Lewis was also adjudged the Most Improved Player, and received awards for the most assists and the most steals. His team-mate Vernell Phillips secured awards for the most points, most rebounds and most blocks, with 124, 95 and 7, respectively.
In the developmental Under-16 Division, Jovani Derrick of Dragons was adjudged the First Round Most Valuable Player, with 172 points, 98 rebounds, 21 assists, 59 steals and 27 blocks in 10 games.
In the Final series, Kelroy Durham of Titans was awarded the MVP.

Hawksâ Daren John was adjudged the Most Improved Player in 2015, and was also awarded for most steals, with 60.
