SVGCC to enter teams in national sporting competitions

The Physical Education and Sports programme of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College could see representative teams competing in cricket, netball and volleyball national tournaments.

That is one of the new thrusts of a revamped effort, under the new CAPE lecturer and sports director Roxell John.{{more}}

John, who takes over the post left vacant by Ortis Jack, who died earlier this year, projected, “The St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College will also move to enter representative teams in the national cricket, netball and volleyball competitions, while a St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College representative team will participate in the 2016 Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Cricket Tournament in Barbados in July next year.”

“Discussions are also on the way with a view of the college participating in the Penn Relays as well as the Sir Arthur Lewis College games,” the release from John added.

And, John also has his eyes on the SVGCC making a trip to the famed Penn Relays in the USA in the future.

The SVGCC’s programme will begin in earnest with the start of the new academic year, with a return of two cohorts of students in the CAPE Physical Education programme.

A new batch of students will join the year two students, who attained 87 per cent passes at the first sitting of the CAPE Unit One exam in June. These passes ranged from grade 3 to 5.

The theory component of the programme will be delivered by Roxell John, the CAPE lecturer, while Wollis Christopher, Wesley Charles, Kebajah King, Cleton Burnett and Neisha Alexander will complete the practical component in track and field, football, tennis, cricket and swimming, respectively.

The college’s 2015 to 2016 sports programme will kick off on September 29 with Inter-Faculty Football competitions at the Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies, as well as at the Division of Technical and Vocational Education. The two Inter-Faculty competitions will run simultaneously.

Attention will then turn to Inter-Divisional competitions. The SVGCC Inter-Divisional Football Competition will begin on October 20th, to be followed by the SVGCC Inter-Divisional Netball Competition from November 20.

Basketball, volleyball, road relay and track and field Inter-Divisional competitions will be staged in the second semester.
