La Fern “Fernie” Millington passes on
Versatile sports administrator La Fern âFernieâ Millington will be laid to rest next Wednesday at the Kingstown Cemetery, following a funeral service at the Kingstown Methodist Church.{{more}}
Known in the sporting circles for her untiring work, Millington died last Tuesday, at the age of 54, after a brief illness.
Incidentally, Millington fell ill the day after the Closing Ceremony of the 2012 Jean Pierre Caribbean Netball Association Under-16 Netball Tournament, held at the Arnos Vale Netball Complex.
The tournament concluded on Thursday, April 19.
At that tournament, Millington served as the Liaison Officer for the Scorers and Timekeepers.
Also prior to illness, Millington was visible in assisting where necessary with the Hairoun Beer National Inter Community/League Football Competition at the Victoria Park.
Millington was also a member of the Breakaway Masters Football Club, prior to her association with the SVG Over 35âs Masters organization.
A former Committee Member of the Executive of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association, Millington also served as manager of the 2001 St Vincent and the Grenadines Under-16 Netball team and was the manager of now defunct The Rebels Athletics Club (TRAC).
Former President of the SVGNA Godfrey Harry said he remembers Millington as a dedicated, hard worker and one who would go beyond call of duty to see things done at their best.
Active in several sporting disciplines and organizations, Millington gave of her service mainly in Football, Netball, and the Starlift Steel Orchestra.
Millington is survived by one son, Peron Spence, as well as eight brothers and eight sisters.(RT)
