Antrobus, however, had to ward off a determined Zefal Bailey, as the two sprinted to the finish line, which was set up at Howard’s Marine at Villa Flat.

Antrobus won in one hour, 43 minutes, 02 seconds, with Bailey finishing in one hour, 43 minutes, 03 seconds.

Cammie Adams clocked one hour 45 minutes, 06 seconds, to take the third place.

Other cyclists who started the race were Shimano Bailey, Albert Quammie and expatriate Mike Sodjka; but all failed to complete the course from Ratho Mill to the Arnos Vale Round About and back, doing so seven times.

Bailey complained of ill health; Quammie, with one lap to go, showed signs of fatigue, while Sojka said he was unaccustomed to the heat that bore down last Sunday afternoon.

The other category for the BMX cyclists had two competitors, as they rode for 12 miles. Coming first was Casnell Duncan and second was Kevorn Williams.

The previous afternoon, the cyclists were involved in two Hill Sprints, which were contested at Argyle.

Taking the 325 meters event was Shimano Bailey, in a time of 40.49 seconds. Second was his younger brother, Zefal Bailey, in 41.46 seconds, with Lucky Antrobus third in 42.46 seconds and fourth was Mike Sojka in 50.39 seconds.

In the longer 1.2 miles sprint, the places were rearranged. It was Zefal Bailey’s turn to win, as he completed the distance in three minutes, 18.14 seconds, ahead of Lucky Antrobus in three minutes 23.11 seconds. Mike Sojka was third in four minutes 02.3 seconds and Shimano Bailey placed fourth in four minutes 33.18 seconds.

Several other road races are planned for the upcoming weeks, as the local cyclists stay it for regional assignments.(RT)
