Today, 22 May 2012, marks the 25th anniversary of the St Vincent and the Grenadines National Olympic Committeeâs (NOC) formal acceptance as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).{{more}}
Having been established on 6 January 1982, the NOC worked in tandem with the governmental authorities here to facilitate the satisfaction of the IOCâs requirements for membership â five national associations with international federation membership, three of which must be Olympic sports.
Today, 25 years later, we can feel justly proud of our affiliation with the IOC. During the period of our membership, we have been able to facilitate the development of Grassroots Talent identification Programme (GTIP), access scholarships for athletes in preparation for the quadrennial Olympic Games and facilitate participation in regional, continental and Olympic Games. Our IOC membership has also allowed us to develop our coaches and administrators.
Today, the NOC stands proud of its ability to deliver developmental assistance across the spectrum of sports played in this country. We have served as an unofficial umbrella organization for sports in St Vincent and the Grenadines, working with each to contribute to the broader national development process through sport.
On the occasion of our 25th anniversary, we wish to express our most sincere gratitude to Lennox Adams, for his vision and indefatigable efforts in establishing our organization 30 years ago. We thank all those who have, in one way or another, contributed to the development of our organization, especially the athletes who have participated in the various Games to which we have been invited and those who have won medals.
We look forward to this yearâs London Olympics in a few weeks time and to the future of sport here in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
We are here to serve sport, especially Olympic sport. We trust that we would continue to benefit from the support of all sport-loving Vincentians at home and abroad.
