Four new faces in National Under-23 Netball Team

Four new faces have been added to the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Under-23 Netball Team to the 21st edition of the E.C.C.B/ O.E.C.S Championships, which takes place in St. Kitts from July 2 to 6.{{more}}

The debutants are Kimesha Antoine, of Clinchers, Danielle Lavia and Shanice Daniel, of X- Ceed, and Delonie Sam, of Nar Fren Dem.

Antoine plays in the Goal Attack/Wing Attack positions, while Lavia is a defensive player and Daniel marshalls the centre court. Sam plays in the Goal Defence / Goal Keep positions.

Sam, who was named in the reserve list last year, makes the graduation this year to the final cut.

Returning are Mary Ann Frederick, Tamara Samuel, and Shellisa Davis, who play in the Goal Shoot/ Goal Attack positions, Naomi Williams- Goal Defence, and Ruth Ann Williams, Centre.

Bonnie Allicott plays in the defence position, as well as Maxine James, who is in her last year at this level.

Fredericks, Samuel, and both Williams girls play for X-Ceed in the local competitions, while Allicott plays for ASCO.

Davis and James represent Division One double champions Mitres.

The team is being coached by Skiddy Francis-Crick, with Sylvorn Lewis- Harry returning as manager.

Moeth Gaymes travels with the team as one of the championship’s umpires.

The National Olympic Committee is paying the airfare for the Vincentian team, which is in search of its thirteenth lien on the title.

When the championships were held here last year, St. Vincent and the Grenadines placed third, behind Grenada and St. Kitts, in that order.

Started in 1991, the sub regional Netball Championships have only seen four territories lifting titles.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines leads the way by some distance with 12 titles; St. Lucia has 4, Grenada 3, and St. Kitts 1.(RT)
