National Senior Squash team gets ditched
St. Vincent and the Grenadines Senior Squash team lost its hold on the OECS title, losing out to the British Virgin Islands(BVI), when the 2011 edition concluded here last Saturday evening at the National Lotteries Authority Squash facility in Paulâs Avenue.{{more}}
The host had to settle for second position, with the other team in the championship, St. Lucia, pacing third.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines eventually captured the Menâs Division, following a tie with the BVI, but in accordance with the rules, a draw was made which put the host ahead.
BVI coasted home in the Womenâs Division with St. Vincent and the Grenadines, second and St. Lucia, with the smallest contingent, third.
The Veterans Division was secured by the host team ahead of the BVI and St. Lucia in that order.
Joe Chapman of the BVI copped the Menâs Open, ahead of Kevin Hannaway of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Placing third was Kevin Bailey, also of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
St. Lucian Monique Lovell took the Womenâs Open, leaving Caroline Du Bois- Sorrentino and Zoe Sorrentino, both of the BVI, in second and third place, respectively.
It was all St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the Menâs 40 and over. First was James Bentick, with Paul Cyrus, second and third, Mark Cyrus.
Among the Womenâs 40 and over, Monique Lovell of St. Lucia added another title, with Vincentian, Deirdre Myers taking the second spot, and third was Sue Sorrentino of the BVI.
Vincentian Vonnie Roudette claimed the Womenâs 50 and over category. Among the men who have passed the age of 50, Keith Boyea from the host country was first, ahead of Mark Chapman of the BVI, second and Leroy Lewis of St. Vincent and the Grenadines finished third.
Lewis went on to be crowned the Menâs 60 and over winner, with Ken Adamson of the BVI, second.
Apart from championship honours, the players were vying for places in the sub regional team to this yearâs Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Championships, slated for Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands in August. (RT)
