The 10-day certification course, which is being conducted by Canadian Coach Houshang Amiri, involves participation from many of the active local cyclists, as well as one each from Grenada and St. Lucia.

The theoretical sessions take place at the Xpert Computer Conference Room.

Amiri told SEARCHLIGHT last Friday, “The whole idea of the course is to give a new knowledge and new discoveries about Cycling training.”

Amiri, who has been involved in cycling for the past 38 years, and who has assisted in the preparation of the Canadian Cycling team for the past 10 years, said that some of the topics being covered during the 10-day period include physical preparation, mental preparation, and all other aspects in preparing athletes for the rigours of cycling.

Amiri disclosed that a two hour examination will be given to the attendees this Thursday, which, if they are successful, will afford them an International Cycling Union (UCI) Level Two certificate.

“There seems to me that there is a great potential here for cycling, but there needs to be some good coaches who can recruit new athletes and put them on the bike and start building them”, Amiri advised.

However, he does not expect overnight success, as according to him, “you need to see cyclists for five to ten years before you can see the outcome.”

The most recent cycling course is the 10th course received by the local Cycling Union. (RT).
