The race, which started and finished in front of G & T Enterprises Supermarket at the Sion Hill Intersection, took runners through Sion Hill Village, on to the London Road by pass road and back to the Intersection.

Second was Team Green and White, with Team Red adjudged the third place finisher.

Teams decked in seven colours participated in the event, which was staged for runners under the age of 19. A female team of athletes, under the age of 12, was also included.

The event was put on by the Lazarus Foundation, as part of National Heroes and Heritage Month Celebrations.

It was used as a precursor to an Inter-Village Six Legged Road Relay, planned for April.

The race will mirror the Sion Hill Inter-Village Football competition, with teams from the various villages within the Sion Hill community taking part.

Like football, the road relays are designed to renew interest in sports in the Sion Hill community, rekindle the community bond, and provide youths with an avenue for social stability.

Cash awards compliments C & E Enterprises and soft drinks provided by various donors were given to the top finishers at last Sunday’s race.
