Super over decides ASCO T/20 match

Excitement mounted at the Dauphine Playing Field last Saturday in the Ashburton Sports and Cultural Organisation (ASCO) T20 Softball Cricket Competition, when it took a super over to determine the winner of the Crystal Clean Next Level versus Sting Nice Radio Clinchers.{{more}}

Reduced to 15 overs because of rain, Clinchers posted 80 for 8.

Enoch James bagged 4 for 4, and Winston Holder, 2/22. Next Level responded with 80 for 8. Extras contributed 24. Joran Nero, 3 for 9, and Kevin Harry, 3 for 20 were the main wicket takers. In the super over, Sting Nice Radio Clinchers only managed 5 for 1, while Next Level responded with 6 from the first delivery.

But for defending champions Simple Boys, it was easy picking as they romped to a 175 run win over Sick Up International.

Simple Boys posted 209 for 7 off 20 overs, as they batted first. Casmond Walters, 31, Sheldon Nanton, 30, Elric Morris, 30, and Eldon Morris, 22, were the principal scorers. Marlon Franklyn captured 3 for 51, while Joseph Cumberbatch took 2 for 46 and Jermaine Cumberbatch, 2 for 54. In reply, Sick Up International was bundled out for 34 in 7.3 overs, as Travis Cumberbatch bagged 5 for 11 and Eldon Morris 2 for 19.

Also on Sunday, Dr. Thomas Injectors beat Progressive Youths by 123 runs. Batting first, Dr. Thomas Injectors reached 165 for 6 in 20 overs. Angustine Corridon made 26.

Danroy Samuel and Kishawn Williams took two wickets each.

In reply, Progressive Youths only managed 42 in 12 overs. Renrick Daniel returned figures of 4 for 21, Brensley Bobb, 2 for 5, and Emel Small, 2 for 2.

And to cap off Sunday’s fixtures, CGM Novice whipped Banks of SVG All Stars by three wickets.

Banks of SVG totalled 116 for 3 off 20 overs, as they batted first. Asmith Mapp top scored with 31 and Kenny Stapleton 26. Kimani Thomas captured 2 for 12.

CGM Novice responded with 118 for 7 in 17.1 overs. Rohan Dowers got 39 and Kentish Phillips, 21. Newborn Joseph bagged 3 for 19, and Kelly Murray, 2 for 33.

And, in the lone female encounter, newcomers Dig Deep Warriors recorded a comfortable 6 wicket win over Shandy Carib Clinchers in a match reduced to ten overs because of rain. Batting first, Shandy Carib Clinchers reached 47 for 5. Clea Hoyte got 19. In reply, Dig Deep Warriors reached 48 for 4 in 5.1 overs. Amollis Marshall top scored with 19. Sandra Samuel picked up 2 for 4, bowling for Clinchers.

Another five matches are set for this weekend at the same venue. (RT)
