Calliaqua United bosses Biabou Basketball Invitational

Calliaqua United showed off their Basketball prowess when they took hold of the Biabou Educational and Sports Club Invitational Basketball Tournament, last Saturday evening at the Biabou Hard-court.{{more}}

It was easier than Sunday morning for the KFC Calliaqua team, who in front of a vibrant crowd, outplayed and outpointed Kahshe Angels in the final.

For their efforts, KFC Calliaqua pocketed $1000, with $500 going to the runner-up.

Led by their top player and national representative Lezlo Mc Kenzie, who poured in 40 points, Calliaqua romped to a 92-46 win.

Leading the goal scoring for Kahshe Angels was Grantley Toby with 14 points.

The multi-talented Mc Kenzie, who also plays Football and Softball Cricket, was later adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the Final, his team’s MVP, as well as the player scoring the Most Points.

He was in the pink of form in the semi-finals the previous night, scoring 51 points and with Diego Sutherland, who contributed 23. Calliaqua ousted Korean’s Divine Designs Biabou All Stars 115 to 49. For Korean’s Divine Designs Biabou All Stars Kareem Grant and Akeem Grant recorded 12 and 11 points respectively.

En route to the finals, Kahshe Angels defeated Carmedix Wings 69 to 58, with Joseph Emmanuel 25 points and 12 rebounds, and Leon Jackson with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Nickron Mercury with 25 points and Gregory Dublin with 12 points were the lead scorers for Wings.

Biabou All Stars secured the third spot, and was also named the Most Disciplined Team.

All Stars’ Kareen Grant pouched the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament award, to go with his team’s MVP and the player with the most three-pointers.

Nkosi Woodley of Biabou Outlaws collated the trophies for the Most Steals, the Most Rebounds, and his team’s MVP. Leon Jackson of Khashe Angels was adjudged the player with the Most Assists. Jackson was Khashe Angels’ MVP.

The other MVP’s were taken by Gregory Austin for Wings and Akeem Grant for Biabou Allstars.

The Youngest Player in the Tournament was ten-year-old Lucian John, who represented Biabou All Stars.

Parliamentary representative for South Windward Frederick Stephenson, who is also the Minister of National Mobilisation, Social Development, Family, Persons with Disabilities, Youth, Sports and Culture, gave brief remarks at the Closing Ceremony.

Stephenson promised that in the near future that the Biabou hard court will be able to accommodate Netball and Tennis. (RT)
