Bailey clocked one hour, 18 minutes, 14.65 seconds to cop the Road Bike category of the 20 mile event, which took the cyclists from Ratho Mill then to the roundabout in Arnos Vale and return to Howard’s Marine five times.

Starting in relatively cool Sunday afternoon weather, the cyclists laboured along the route, which was reflected in their returns.

In second spot was Albert Quammie, whose time was one hour, 18 minutes, 14.87 seconds, as the main bunch sprinted home in a mad rush on a wet surface, occasioned by a heavy shower that descended during the fourth lap.

Trailing the top two was Zephal Bailey, who clocked one hour, 18 minutes, 15.05 seconds.

Peter Durrant was fourth, Shane Cole was fifth, Marlon Antrobus was sixth and seventh was Lucky Antrobus.

In the Mountain Bike category, which spanned three laps of the same route, the first place finisher was Cammie Adams, with David Thomas, second.

Cash prizes were awarded to the top three finishers in the Road Bike segment, with trophies presented to those in the Mountain Bike category.

The awards were donated by Sailor’s Cycling Center.

It is expected that the SVG Cycling Union will host another road race in the next fortnight.

Also on the cards later in the year on the local front, are invitational races involving cyclists from neighbouring Caribbean territories. (RT)
