The spotlight shone on Glenroy Browne, who was unbeaten throughout the competition and was voted the Most Valuable Player of the competition.

He was the marquee player in the team finals as C-Block defeated Chapel three games to two.

Browne was victorious over Shawn George, 11-4, 11-1, while Dexter Brewster beat Grantley Adams, 11-8, 15-13. Mark Shallow defeated Alpheus Horne, 8-11, 11-6 and 11-7, while Adams defeated Shawn George 11-8, 11-7.

Browne outplayed and outpointed Grantley Adams in the Men’s Singles Final, 11-7, 11-5.

En route to the final, Browne disposed of Mark Shallow 11-8, 11-7, while Adams beat Brewster, 6-11, 11-8, 11-8.

In the Ladies’ Semi-Finals Singles, Kawana Wilkins beat Shanette Cumberbatch 11-8, 8-11, 11-8, while Kelly-Ann Gilkes had an easy passage to the finals, as she won Cassandra Huggins by default.

Gilkes showed her superiority in the finals, as she took care of Wilkins in straight sets, 11-7 and 11-6.

In the Doubles Finals, the combination of Dexter Brewster and Alpheus Horne saw off the pair of Shawn George and Mark Shallow, two sets to one. Brewster and Horne won the first set 11-9, but George and Shallow clawed back to win 11-9, but Brewster and Horne had the final say, in the deciding set, as they took it, also by the same score-line, in a hard fought encounter.

Romano Hunte received a special prize for being the most gracious loser.

There were brief remarks made at the closing ceremony by Chief Prison Officer Brian Andrews, Director of the Physical Education and Sports Nelson Hillocks and Assistant Sports Officer Sean Stanley.

Stanley, on behalf of the Sean Stanley Table Tennis Academy, presented a Table Tennis Board, three racquets and a Table Tennis net to the Prisons.

Andrews received the equipment on behalf of the institution. (RT)
