Lewis, competing in the Female 60-64 age group, copped silver medals in both the shot put and discus events. She failed to hold on to the titles she won at last year’s Games.

Despite this, Lewis has gained qualification to the World Masters to be held in California, as well as the Senior Olympics in Texas in 2011.

She threw 9.69 metres in the shot putt and 23.55 metres in the discus.

Attending her third Huntsman Games, Lewis told SEARCHLIGHT last Sunday that it had the most competitive outing for her, as it was the largest participation.

She believes this was so because the Games were a qualifier for both international competitions next year.

Lewis said in her age grouping there were some persons who have gone to the Olympics in the past.

“It was real challenge for all of us as the weather was not kind, it was real rainy. There was also a thunderstorm,” Lewis stated.

Lewis said, due to the conditions, the atheletes had to stand and throw as they were unable to get any rotations on their throws.

She recalled that the severity of the weather caused two children attending the Games to be electrocuted as a result of lightning.

Lewis is looking forward to make the best of her training schedule so that she can be in top shape at next year’s mega events. (RT)
