TASVG looks ahead
Thirty one young athletes, fifteen females and sixteen males, have been earmarked by Team Athletics SVG to begin training with a view to preparing systematically for regional and international meets over the next four years. This is part of the athletics bodyâs Academy Programme.{{more}}
The females selected are Naomi Williams, Cherise Hall, Velesia Jack, Nadia Delpleche, Suzette Jordon, Nicky-Ann Stephens, Shaquille Branker, Alicia Cox, Felicia John, Mary-Ann Fredricks, Anada Francois, Danielle Lavia, Shantal Rouse, Lenesha Oliver and Aaliyah Providence.
The males include Yurnic Nanton, Kamarl Providence, Renaldo Charles, Chaz Howe, Trevor Swift, Druvaughn Edwards, Osborne Brudy, Ezra Samuel, Jason Ollivierre, Shaquille Browne, Myron Samuel, Ivando Clarke, Jemmie Arthur, Xavique Cyrus, Keron Arthur, and Kimroy Cupid.
TASVG in a release said that the senior members will be announced in due course.
President of TASVG, Keith Joseph, disclosed last Sunday at the closing ceremony of the Round D Town Road Relay at Heritage Square that some of the Junior athletes would be immediately gearing up Central American and Caribbean (CAC) age group competition for athletes 10 to 14 years, as well as the Junior Carifta Games for the Under 17- and Under19, while the seniors would focus on the CAC Seniors and Pan American Games.
The 2012 Olympics is also on the cards, with the World Juniors Championships to follow.
Technical Director of TASVG, Gideon Labban, will coordinate training sessions scheduled to begin the first week in October.
According to the release, there will be a common training session held at the Arnos Vale Playing Field on Saturdays, while during the week the coaches of the athletes will conduct their regular training sessions.
Each coach will be expected to submit to TASVG the weekly training regimen of each of the athletes under his/her charge.
Additionally, there will be monthly evaluations conducted by TASVG, as all coaches will be brought together to discuss the progress of the athletes listed in the programme. (RT)
