All four Vincy teams in winner’s row in BCL

All four Vincentian cricket teams participating in the Brooklyn Cricket League (BCL) played last weekend.{{more}}

Cavaliers recorded one win and one loss. First they were awarded a rain affected match against Brooklyn Knights.

Knights, batting first, made 129 all out from 19.1 overs. Cavaliers was 4 without loss, when the rains came.

Inadequate covering of the wicket by home team, Knights, prevented the match from being completed.

Cavaliers eeked out a nail biting win over Grenada. Grenada made 268 all out in 35 overs, after being 95 for 6. Gregory Anthony’s 118 was the bone of the Grenada batting.

Timothy Warner had 4 for 48 and Orlanzo Mofford, 2 for 49. A well played, timely 68 by former Windward Island batsman Albert Texeria; 43 from Orlanzo Mofford, a quick 36 from Mike Providence and 26 from Captain former Windwards and West Indies fast bowler, Cameron Cuffy, along with a timely 21 from Timothy Warner helped Cavaliers to reach 265, four runs shy of their winning target of 269.

Anthony took 3 for 38, Kelly Payne, 2 for 24, and former Windwards fast bowler and Cavaliers Captain, Casper Davis, now playing with Grenada, took 2 for 58.Cavaliers, nine wins and two losses.

Middlesex beat Wanderers and were awarded the match. Wanderers 117 all out from 28.3 overs, just as the weather changed and a treating Thunder Storm broke.

Mark Audain picked up 3 for 20, Sherwin Bazil, 2 for 10, and former West Indies fast bowler Adam Sanford, 2 for 15.

Following the rain, play was unable to continue due to a water logged bowlers’ run up on the southern side of the cricket pitch. Middlesex was awarded the match as the area was not properly covered by host team Wanderers, as the rules of the Brooklyn cricket league stipulates.

On Sunday at Seaview, Middlesex faced Challengers.

Middlesex took first strike and was dismissed for 151. Jacob Emmanuel, former Windward Islands youth player, 62, including 6 sixes and 3 fours and, Mark Audain, 23.

Kamoor was 3 for 27, Fahad Maghul, 2 for 32. In reply, Challengers was dismissed for 133.

Mark Audain, 4 for 40, Adam Sanford, 2 for 22 and Darren Denis, 3 for 29, as Middlesex won by 18 runs.

It was another Vincy clash, Imperial and Queensbury.

Batting first, Queensbury made 159 for 6. Iva Martin, 40, and Joseph Shortte, 30.

Devane Warner, 2 for 38; Junaid Muzaid, 2 for 27. This match also was affected by rain and a thunderstorm.

Queensbury was awarded the match as host Imperial failed to cover the pitch properly.

Imperial’s luck improved on Sunday when they played their second match against Pak Kashmir.

Pak Kashmir made198 for 9 in the allotted 40 overs. Asim Waheed, 42, Zaheer Hussain, 39, and Tahir Shah, 37.

Colville Browne, 2 for 22, Devane Warner, 2 for 26 runs, Kester Sylvester, 2 for 3. Imperial replied with 200 for 7.

Orien Bostic, 56, Jason Williams, 55, and Foster Lewis, 28, saw Imperial’s victory.

Tomorrow, Saturday, Middlesex takes on Grenada, Queenbury faces Diplomats at Marine Park B, Imperial and Jannah face off.

Cavaliers will play Challengers at Marine Park C and Middlesex and Queenbury will play at Seaview on Sunday. (RT)
