The men from Paul’s Avenue somehow brought the pressure upon themselves when they blew a 2-0 lead to lose to Bayamon FC 2-5 at the Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium, Puerto Rico, in their first game on Tuesday evening.

Schoolboy Myron Samuel scored in the 11th and 28th minutes to give Avenues the cushion they needed but they failed to defend the lead and conceded goals in the 30th and 33rd minutes.

These goals came from Bayamon FC’s Cesar Elizondo and Wendell Watson respectively.

Following the half time interval, Avenues did not produce the type of football they are capable of and this led to Alain Gustate grabbing a hat-trick of goals, as he scored in the 51, 55 and 65 minutes of the game.

Three clubs were scheduled to meet in the competition but reports state that the club from Haiti failed to journey to Puerto Rico. It is not clear why, but Avenues’ management were informed that the Haitian club should have arrived in Puerto Rico last Tuesday night.

Contingency plans were put in place and the competition organisers informed Avenues that its first game against Bayamon FC was its ‘home’ game.

Last night, Avenues’ task was to beat Bayamon FC by four clear goals to advance to the next round of the competition.

Bayamon FC boast players from Australia, Spain, the USA, Colombia, Panama, Haiti, the Palestinian territories, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico.
