SVG finished bottom of the lot

For the first time in many years, host St. Vincent and the Grenadines finished in the cellar position in the Windward Islands Under-19 Cricket Competition.{{more}}

After having to settle for first innings points over St. Lucia, SVG was peppered by Grenada by 9 wickets in their second round match.

Sunil Ambris made 40, in the home team’s total of 138. Jennard Paul took 3 for 21, Akeem Alexis, 2 for 9, and Josh Thomas, 2 for 30.

Rudolph Paul’s 53 was the topscorer in Grenada’s reply of 198. Devern Charles snared 3 for 31, Teron Simon, 3 for 36, and Asif Hoper, 2 for 28, bowling for the Vincentians, who made 116 in their second knock.

Jennard Paul grabbed 5 for 22 and Levaughn Lewis, 2 for 23.

The impressive Denis Smith blasted 35 not out as the Grenadians reached 60 for 1.

But the Vincentians were able to salvage first innings points from Dominica, but it was not enough to save them from finishing with 12 points, the same as Grenada, but they were relegated to fourth, based on the head to head outcome between the two.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines amassed 286, with Sunil Ambris scoring 76, and Rodney Lawrence 56. Joranni Charles took 4 for 42 and Kaveem Hodge, 3 for 49.

Dominica stopped at 226, with Hodge the topscorer with 62 and Danny Dupigny, 35, and Emmanuel Peter, 34. Asif Hooper grabbed 6 for 55.

When the match ended, the Vincentians were 95 for 3. Patrick Honore’ had 2 for 40.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines chalked up three straight liens in the tournament from 2006 to 2008, and finished second to Dominica last year. The 2011 tournament is scheduled for Grenada. (RT)
