SSTTA completes Youth Vacation Tournament
Close to twenty budding and established junior Table Tennis players got another occasion to hone their skills when the Sean Stanley Table Tennis Academy staged another in a series of in house tournaments.{{more}}
The Academyâs home base, the Kingstown Anglican School Annex, was the venue for the contest which finished last week Friday afternoon.
On an afternoon of finals, Kadeem de Shong and Jumar Pope contested the Under-12 category. The former, a more seasoned player, beat Pope in straight sets, 11-4, 11-4.
Another emerging player, Aron Lewis, secured the Under-14 title. His opponent was Javier de Shong.
To get to the finals, Lewis had defeated Justin Robinson two sets to one. He won 11-8, in the first, lost by the same score line in the second, but triumphed 11- 5 in the deciding set.
Javier de Shong had a much easier passage to the final as he won by default from Jevan Cordice.
In the final, Lewis stormed back after Javier won the first set 16-14, to win 2-1. Lewis won the next two sets, 11-5, 11- 6.
The Under -16 title was taken by Dominic Evans when he beat Jonathan Daniel in a very competitive match up, three sets to one.
Evans took the first set 12-10, but Daniel equalled things up with an 11-9 win in the second. Evans took the other sets, but not without a fight, winning 12-10 and 11-9.
Prior to the finals, Evans whipped Robinson 2-0. Evans won 11-8, 11-8.
His final opponent, Daniel had beaten Cruz John in semi final play also, 2-0.Daniel won the semis 12-10, 11-6.
And, Pete Dublin collected the Under-21 title, when he faced off with Evans.
Dublin, the more senior, got a run for his money, though, as Evans took two sets from him, but finally prevailed 3-2. Dublin won by default from Kamal Hunte in the semis, while Evans blanked Daniel 2-0, winning 11-6, 11-8.
Dublin won 11-8, 12-10 and 11-4 in the second, fourth and fifth sets, respectively, to secure the win. Evans won the first set 11-5 and the third 11-8.(RT)
